Sierra Towers is a 31-story high-rise residential apartment building located in West Hollywood, California, United States. It is located at 9255 Doheny Avenue, near Beverly Hills. It was designed by the legendary modern architect Jack A. Charney, who trained under Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler in the mid-century, Beverly Hills. It was completed as an apartment building in 1965, and was originally called the Spoon Apartment Building. The building facilities include 24-hour surveillance, a concierge service, a fitness center and an outdoor pool.

Construction

Walter and Leo Minskoff, whose family firm also built Minskoff Theatre in New York, developed Sierra Towers for $12 million. The building is considered to be more than 15 storeys taller than any other building within a distance of 2 miles (3.2 km). The building is the tallest residential tower in the greater Los Angeles Area due to the unique location of Sierra Towers at the base of a hill (the same hill from which Beverly Hills gets its name from). Height relative to sea level depends on height, not number of floors. The building is said to derive its plural name from original scuttled plans to build a second tower.

Notable residents

Sierra Towers was first owned as a rental property but the building was converted to condominiums in 1974 after it was bought by New York real estate developer Helmsley Spear Inc. The 146-unit building houses a handful of celebrities own condominiums. Corteney Cox, Karyn White, Lily Collins, Joan Collins, Diahann Carroll, Sandra Bullock, Kelly Osbourne, Vincent Gallo, PJ Harvey, Robert Sherman, Jim Morris, and Emma Watson are among the celebrities.

Historically, Matthew Perry, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Zoe, Evander Holyfield, Peter Lawford, Fred Durst, Sidney Poitier, George Hamilton, David Geffen, Bill Shoemaker, Nino Tempo and Edith Flagg have all been residents and owners. Former resident Elton John and partner David Furnish commissioned designer Martyn Lawrence-Bullard to create an apartment design inspired by the 1970s which features kelly green walls in the kitchen and a Grand Hotel chandelier in Milan. Singer-actress Cher sold her 2.302-square-foot two-story condominium in 2013 for $5.25 million, created by combining two single-bedroom apartments.
